After Google bought part of the Fossil Wear OS watch division, the firm is back to boot with a new line of smartwatches. The company has called it the Fossil Gen 5, and as always, its new smartwatches return to Wear OS as the operating system.
Fossil Gen 5 highlights are extended battery life and a speaker. The first is a patented technology with different battery settings that aims to “ offer a more durable battery life ”, while the second is designed to answer and make calls directly from the watch. We’ll talk about these two features later, but first let’s look at its technical sheet.

Several styles with similar aesthetics
The new Fossil Gen 5 comes in two different styles. The first is Julianna HR, with a more feminine design and golden pink spheres. The second is the Carlyle HR, with black and gray spheres, darker straps and a more masculine design. A simple aesthetic problem, since the size of the strap and spheres are the same: 44 x 44 mm, 12 mm thick and 22 mm.
At the top, we have a 1.28-inch full round AMOLED screen with a resolution of 328 x 328 pixels. From there we can access the tile “A new Wear OS feature that allows you to view information and perform actions by swiping right or left. Through gestures, we will also be able to access applications by highlighting Spotify or Noonlight and Cardiogram, which are pre-installed.
Fossil new battery management mode
Fossil watches allow you to change the battery management mode for increased autonomy. Now that we’re talking about apps, let’s talk about features. Extended Battery Mode is an elegant way to access various battery management systems. There are four of them and they are as follows:
1. Extended battery mode: only the basic functions of the watch are activated, and, depending on the brand, “ extend one charge to several days ”.
2. Day mode: more features like always-on screen Let’s say this is how we will use the most.
3. User Mode: Allows the user to customize which features and settings are enabled.
4. Time Only Mode: The watch starts showing time only to avoid unnecessary consumption.
On the other hand, we have a speaker, and Fossil has implemented it to offer sound alerts or notifications, Google Assistant voice interactions, translations via Google Translate, and music playback or answering calls directly from the watch. It will be available on Android as well as iOS, which we haven’t seen yet.
In the end, we are talking about performance. The new Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch comes with a Snapdragon Wear 3100, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, and a battery (according to the manufacturer). It has 3 ATM resistance (30 meters depth), NFC for mobile payments, and is compatible with Android 4.4 or higher or iOS 10 or higher. Android Go terminals are excluded.
The Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch will be available on Amazon India for Rs 22,995, one month after its global launch. The smartwatch is available in the Carlyle and Julianna series. The Carlyle series is available in Smoke (steel), Black (silicone) and Dark Brown (leather) straps, while the Julianna models are available in rose gold (steel), Blush (leather) and Black (silicone) straps.
